Programme for 2022

STAGE 1 – February 7th – March 8th
An online programme of training in vocal ensemble techniques
Through the music of Women Composers
Open to YOUNG SINGERS aged c. 15 – 25 of any gender and at varying skill levels

Access to the programme is free of charge but requires a high level of personal commitment.  Successful applicants will receive a 1 to 1 Assessment Session followed by 6 Development Workshops and the option to then Record and Perform with electric voice theatre in our ZOOM Concert for International Women’s Day on March 8th.  Successful participants may be invited to go on to the 2nd Stage to study an allocated solo work by a Woman Composer.

The project is designed to challenge and build skills in vocalisation, musicianship, extended voice, improvisation, ensemble, memorizing, practicing, performance (including performing with BSL) and to raise awareness of classical music repertoire by women composers past and present.

You do not have to be able to read music, but if you can, all scores will be provided, along with sound files, word sheets, catch up videos and other material as needed.

We particularly welcome applications from young people who may otherwise have difficulty accessing this kind of tuition for reasons of geography, finance or any form of discrimination. Technical access will be assessed with each individual and we will endeavour to ensure any essential needs are met.

STAGE 2 – March 23rd– April 12th

An online series of workshops
leading to a performance of music by Women Composers

Stage 2 participants will be allocated a solo work each by a Woman Composer and, over a series of 4 workshops will be coached in vocal technique, musicianship, memorizing and performance.

Open to YOUNG SINGERS who have completed Stage 1 of this programme or who are either working professionally or with some experience singing classical music in other settings. Access to the programme is free of charge but requires a high level of personal commitment.

STAGE 2 Sessions

Workshop 1 – Words, Memory and Meaning.
A chance to meet and work with the other participants while working on the process of learning & practicing the music.
Workshop 2 – THE SONGS
Specialist work on each Song, with each singer being allocated approx 1 hour to attend during this session
Workshop 3– REHEARSAL
Specialist work on each Song, including preparation to **record each solo – with each singer being allocated approx 1 hour to attend during this session. Workshop 4 – REHEARSAL 2
Continuing Specialist work on each Song – with each singer being allocated approx 1 hour to attend during this session.
Workshop 5 – DRESS REHEARSAL

Mon 11th April 2022 Voices for the Future ZOOM CONCERT
Participants showcase their work to invited sponsors, music professionals and the public.

PLENARY
A compulsory session for all participants of STAGES 1 & 2 – a chance to reflect,
and ask questions about the process and what happens next eg. building professional relationships, collaboration, production, setting up your own company, inclusion, transforming inspiration into action.

**Resulting recordings will be used in performance by participants and may also be used on our websites – electric voice theatre and Minerva Scientifica; social media platforms; live/online performances; broadcasts or in PODCASTS as part of our successful series “Women in Science & Music: 30 Celebrations”.
